Here we go. For the real big draft nerds, Round 2 is almost more exciting than Round 1. All those players that somehow slipped through the cracks of Round 1 will finally hear their name called. Players like Joey Porter Jr. and Will Levis were near locks to be drafted Thursday night, however, by Friday morning neither were. Enter Round 2. Where the blue-chip players are made. Here’s my favorite selection of the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Round 2 Favorite Selection:

#26 (57th Overall): New York Giants: John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota

It pains me to pick a draftee from an NFC East team not named the Cowboys, but I just really liked the Giants overall draft. Headlined by Schmitz, a guy I had a potential Round 1 sleeper, the G-Men got immediate upgrades at a surplus of positions. After paying Daniel Jones the equivalent of Dak Prescott’s contract (hilarious), they got him his support up front in Schmitz while a potential steal at receiver in Jalin Hyatt one round later.

Schmitz is the best center in this draft, which is why I was surprised the other New York team took Joe Tippmann a few picks prior. Being from Wisconsin certainly helped Tippmann’s pedigree. However, Schmitz is more polished, has high football intelligence as the leader and caller of all schemes upfront, and consisntely uses correct footwork and burst. This guy will be start Week 1 and have a long career in the NFL. Truly an offensive line coach’s dream prospect.

Stay tuned for my favorite selections from all the rounds of the 2023 Draft!
