Well the 2023 version of NFL Draft came and went, and this year certainly didn’t disappoint. Every year it seems that nothing goes as planned or predicted, throwing out every mock analysts work so hard to put together. Rightfully so, the drama usually starts right at the top of the first round. Some players seen as top 10 locks fall out of the first round (Will Levis) while others jump much higher than projected (Jahmyr Gibbs/Jack Campbell). But that’s the beauty of the NFL Draft. Let’s get into my favorite selection from each round. No better place to start than Round 1:

Round 1 Favorite Selection:

#17 Overall: New England Patriots: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon

A player that was seen as more than likely to go in to the top 10, slid even seven spots more due to team needs and preferences. Once Washington passed over Gonzalez one pick prior, it was nearly a no-brainer for New England. This guy just screams Bill Belichick. His fluidity and quick instincts cement as a Day 1 starter in the Pats secondary, quickly developing into a star.

In my biggest winners of the combine piece, I had Gonzalez here for his extraordinary performance. Once I saw this selection, I knew no first round selection would come close for me. Vegas currently gives Gonzalez the 5th best odds for Defensive Rookie of Year, with the four in front of him all being top 10 selections. Belichick may very well have done it again after the Duck brings home some hardware after his first season in Foxborough.

Stay tuned for my favorite selections from every round of the 2023 Draft!
